I never understood this portion of scripture but I decided to dig in and with prayer and talking with my Teacher (Holy Spirit) I searched.
Matthew 15:21-28
The woman from Canaan was a place in Tyre and Sidon
These 2 places were heathen nations that had taken captive and destroyed Israel/ Jerusalem. Jesus in one of His teachings had stated about Tyre and Jerusalem " But I say unto you it will be more tolerable at the day of judgement than for you. Matthew 11:22
This woman was from this region we would call her a heathen a sinner.
She's heard of Him (Jesus) and that He has healed the sick and freed the demon possessed.
Her daughter is demon possessed. She calls out to Him and states what she wants.
She maybe just be someone wanting a miracle, but no belief of who Jesus is.
(People ask for prayer - do they just want to be healed or do they seek the Healer to follow?)
The disciples say "Send her away."
At that point Jesus responds to her. "I am not sent, but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel."
Remember Jesus has said various times that He only does what His Father told Him to do, goes only where His Father tells Him to go.
At this point He hasn't gone to the cross for the world.
Then something in her changed. She fell at His feet and worshipped Him
And said 3 words, "Lord help me."
She humbled herself lying on the ground for all to see,
She honored Him by calling Him LORD.
She asked not demanded.
Jesus' response to my mind has always seemed so cruel. It doesn't anymore. When I was on the throne of my life and when people were more important I thought wow Jesus. But now I understand when God says something He means it. He's just, and what moves Him is our faith.
Jesus says to her "it is not meet (right) to take the children's bread (Jesus is the Bread of Life His assignment at this time is to the children of Israel and Israel only) and give to the little dogs. (This phrase was how Israel viewed sinners or anyone not Jewish). Her response determines everything. She could have gotten insulted or offended and walked away without receiving anything.
The woman says, "Yes you tell the truth (she knew she was a sinner she knew she shouldn't receive anything- but she was bold) but even dogs eat crumbs from their masters table. "
She was bold she also was saying You are my Master and I believe your crumbs are more than enough. Your crumbs are more than any banquet.
I can just hear Jesus saying with such emotion "OH WOMAN GREAT IS YOUR FAITH."
Be it unto thee ever as thou wilt."
Great faith: changes situations instantly.
You got to put action to your faith
It doesn't matter where you come from.
It doesn't matter what your past is.
It doesn't matter what mess you are in now.
Great faith:
Comes humbly
Comes in worship
Comes with faith belief and faith only comes from hearing and hearing the Word of God.
Comes speaking the Word.
Doesn't take no / silence for the answer
Silence- This is not the only place where Jesus was silent at
Someone's request.
Here's a challenge read the Gospels and find the times Jesus
Just kept walking their boldness and persistence made Him respond.
Let me know what and where you find it.
Happy digging
Be blessed
